Chinese Beef Meatballs with Hoisin Ginger Sauce Recipe

One of my go-to recipes for potlucks and parties because these Asian-inspired meatballs are just so easy to make! Combine that with how very popular they are, and you have a winning appetizer for any entertaining, parties, or gatherings!

If you need to be even more hands free than this easy recipe allows, make the meatballs and sauce ahead of time then refrigerate both until ready to heat and serve!

How To Make Chinese Beef Meatballs

To get started you will need ground beef, Panko, garlic, sesame oil, ground ginger, an egg, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and any garnish desired ( I used sesame seeds and sliced green onions ). You may also want to scale the recipe up or down, depending on how many people you are serving and the size that your meatballs will be.

While making the meatballs and sauce, preheat your oven to 400 ºF ( 205 ºC ) and grease your baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

For the Chinese Beef Meatballs, combine beef, Panko, garlic, sesame seed oil, ground ginger, and egg in a medium to a large mixing bowl. Make sure that the ingredients are thoroughly combined, then shape into 1" round balls and place on your baking sheet.

Place in the oven and bake the meatballs for 10 minutes or until the outside is browned and the inside is no longer pink. The internal temperature of your beef meatballs should be 160 ºF ( 71.1 ºC ) as read by a digital meat thermometer, per foodsafety.gov guidelines.

Make the Hoisin Ginger Sauce

Combine the Hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, and ground ginger in a small bowl and set aside until the meatballs are done baking.

Serve your Chinese Beef Meatballs by either dipping them into the Hoisin Ginger Sauce, plating and drizzling the sauce over them, or by placing them in a bowl or container and covering with the sauce ( stir them in gently to avoid breaking the meatballs ). Enjoy!

Chinese Beef Meatballs

  • 1 lb/16 oz ground beef (or ground pork)
  • cup Panko
  • 2 teaspoon garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 large egg
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).

  • In a medium to large mixing bowl, combine the meatball ingredients: ground beef, Panko, minced garlic, sesame oil, ground ginger and egg. Stir until thoroughly combined then roll into 1" meatballs and place onto a baking sheet (greased or parchment paper lined). Bake meatballs for 10-12 minutes or until inside is no longer pink.

  • While the meatballs are baking, combine sauce ingredients: hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seed oil and ground ginger. Coat cooked meatballs by dipping or pouring over meatballs in a container.
